“The Devil Has Been Beaten!”

Before the singing began, they stood in line—worn, quiet, waiting. Empty sacks in hand, they came for food, for soap, for prayer. These were widows. Many living with HIV. All fighting to survive.

When their names were called, they received rice, oil, beans, juice, and soap. A simple gift. But not the only one. As the tambourine played, a song broke the silence. One voice, then many. The women sang and danced, filled with joy and defiance.

They chanted it in their language—over their sickness, their hunger, their past. And for a moment, in that small corner of Mozambique, darkness fled. There was only joy.
